On “Cerco Un Paese Innocente”, trumpeter and composer Michael Mantler sets the works of Italian poet Giuseppe Ungaretti to music. One of the most influential of modern poets, Ungaretti's works deals with the broad themes of human existance-loneliness, love, nature and death. On this recording, Mantler creates an unconventional suite of songs and interludes for vocalist Mona Larson, the Danish Radio Big Band and guest soloists.
