On his fifth ECM album Swiss violinist Paul Giger is joined by two equally gifted and independent spirits: American flute virtuoso Robert Dick and Japanese percussionist Satoshi Takeishi. All three musicians have been world travellers and their playing techniques draw on music of multiple cultures and historical epochs. Giger’s playing embraces lessons learned from playing baroque music and contemporary composition, from jazz and folk styles, and from the years he spent travelling in Asia. Satoshi Takeishi combines an Eastern ‘zen’ sensibility with a knowledge of improvisational possibilities. And Robert Dick, flutist extraordinaire, has deep roots in classical music, free playing and new jazz.
