Christmas Lists, Part 2

More recommendations from the critics:

Three ECM discs have received Album of the Year awards in France. Enrico Rava’s “Tati”, featuring Paul Motian and Stefano Bollani, has netted several of them – Disque d’émoi de l’année Jazz Magazine, Choc Jazzman de l’année, and Meilleur disque de l’année/Grand prix de l’Académie du Jazz. "Tati" was also voted Jazz album of the year in Italy's "Musica Jazz".

The magazine Jazzman also gives a Choc de l’année 2005 to Keith Jarrett’s “Radiance”, and Jazz Magazine declares Manu Katché’s “Neighbourhood” Disque d’émoi de l’année.

In Hungary, meanwhile, Gramofon Magazin gives its Classical Album of the Year award to András Schiff and Miklós Perényi for their recording of the Complete Music for Piano and Violoncello by Ludwig van Beethoven.

Swiss monthly news magazine Facts includes Arvo Pärt’s “Lamentate” amongst the Best Classical Albums of the Year.

Journalists at German newspaper Die Zeit recommend CDs for Christmas, with nominations for Enrico Rava’s “Tati”; Barry Guy’s “Folio”; “In due tempi”, the Cikada String Quartet’s recording of music by Kaija Saariaho, John Cage and Bruno Maderna; Giya Kancheli’s “Time and Again” with Gidon Kremer, Kremerata Baltica, and the Bridge Ensemble; Tigran Mansurian’s String Quartets, as played by the Rosamunde Quartet.

At the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung, the critics offer Discs of the Year “advice for undecided record buyers”, with multiple votes for Volume One of András Schiff’s Beethoven piano sonata cycle, as well as votes for Manu Katché’s “Neighbourhood”, the Trio Mediaeval’s “Stella Maris”, Savina Yannatou’s “Sumiglia”, and Thomas Zehetmair’s account of the Ysaÿe sonatas.
