Stefano Bollani receives the Musica Jazz Italian “Record of the Year” and “Musician of the Year” awards
The just-published January edition of noted Italian jazz magazine “Musica Jazz” includes their “Top Jazz 2006” awards, and Stefano Bollani has been honoured with first place in the key categories of Italian Jazz Record of the Year and Italian Jazz Musician of the Year.
In the category of “Italian Record of the Year”, Stefano’s ECM recording “Piano Solo” (ECM 1964), stands far out in front with over two and a half times the points awarded the second place recording. In the category “Italian Musician of the Year” he is followed by trombonist Gianluca Petrella, who is featured on the upcoming release of the Enrico Rava Quintet “The Words and the Days” (ECM 1982), and ECM artists trumpeter Enrico Rava and pianist Stefano Battaglia also appear in the top ten.
Among the international awards going to ECM artists and recordings, three releases feature among the top ten of the “International Records of the Year”:
“The Carnegie Hall Concert” of Keith Jarrett (ECM 1989/90)
“Garden of Eden” of the Paul Motian Band (ECM 1917)
“Sangam” of Charles Lloyd (ECM 1976)
The “Top Jazz” annual awards of “Musica Jazz” are in their 24th year and are based on voting from a panel of 62 Italian radio and print jazz journalists. The January issue of “Musica Jazz” also features Stefano Bollani on the cover and includes an extensive interview with the artist.
