Special Honours for Herbert Henck at this Year’s Ernst von Siemens Prize
Herbert Henck whose new recording of hitherto unknown piano pieces from the 1920s by twelve-tone composers Johann Ludwig Trepulka and Norbert von Hannenheim has just been released on ECM New Series was given a lifetime achievement award with special honours by the jury of the Ernst von Siemens Preis. Due to ill health, Henck was unable to attend the ceremony at the Munich Kammerspiele on May 2 when British composer Brian Ferneyhough received the major Ernst von Siemens prize. The committee acknowledged Henck’s “commitment and profound knowledge especially for contemporary music – both as a pianist who has recorded more than 50 albums and as publicist and author of innumerable musicological works. His enthusiastic audiences not only admire his playing but also his astonishing musical knowledge.” His most recent book, a monograph of Norbert von Hannenheim, is available via Herbert Henck’s website: www.herbert-henck.de
