				December 5 , 2008 FOUR GRAMMY NOMINATIONS FOR ECM This year’s ECM Grammy nominations go exclusively to the label’s ladies– and why not? Our congratulations to Norma Winstone, Carla Bley, Meredith Monk and the Trio Mediaeval, short-listed in four different categories. Norma Winstone, England’s outstanding jazz singer, is nominated in the category Best Jazz Vocal Album for her album “Distances”. Norma Winstone Trio (ECM 2028) Carla Bley, iconoclastic jazz composer, is nominated in the category Best Large Jazz Ensemble Album for her nostalgia-inflected live disc “Appearing Nightly”. Carla Bley Big Band: Appearing Nightly (WATT 33) Unclassifiable new music pioneer Meredith Monk and her Vocal Ensemble are nominated in the category Best Small Ensemble Performance for the album “Impermanence”. Meredith Monk: impermanence (ECM New Series 2026) And Scandinavia’s Trio Mediaeval are nominated in the category Best Chamber Music Performance for an album that celebrates their traditional “roots”: “Folk Songs”. Trio Mediaeval: Folk Songs (ECM New Series 2003) Winners of the 51st Grammy Awards will be announced on February 8, 2009 at the Staples Center in Los Angeles.
