"Yesterdays" tops German jazz chart

Yesterdays by Keith Jarrett, Gary Peacock and Jack DeJohnette has moved to # 1 on the German jazz charts published by Media Control International, following what has become almost a familiar pattern for the Jarrett trio’s recordings. Other ECM albums are also moving up the Jazz Top 30. Enrico Rava’s New York Days, with Stefano Bollani, Mark Turner, Larry Grenadier and Paul Motian, enters at # 5.

At #17 is As Ney, the ECM debut of Cyminology, the group fronted by German-Iranian singer Cymin Samawatie. (The group is currently winding up a highly-successful tour of Germany and Switzerland, with packed houses everywhere).

And at #29 we are glad to see The Codona Trilogy, the triple-album reissue of the genre-defying albums by Don Cherry, Nana Vasconcelos and Collin Walcott, recorded 1978-1982, and setting the stage as Die Zeit noted recently, for the great wave of ‘world music’ to come.
