Grammy Nomination for Manfred Eicher

Manfred Eicher has been nominated as Classical Producer of the Year in the 54th Grammy Awards of America’s National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences, on the merits of album productions including: “Ich hatte viel Bekümmernis”, Heinz Holliger’s account of J.S. Bach’s Concertos & Sinfonias for oboe; “Hymns and Prayers” with music of Giya Kancheli, César Franck and Stevan Kovacs Tickmayer, performed by Gidon Kremer & Kremerata Baltica; “Manto & Madrigals”, the recital disc of Thomas Zehetmair and Ruth Killius, with compositions by Holliger, Bartók, Scelsi, Skalkottas, Maxwell Davies and more; Meredith Monk’s “Songs Of Ascension”; “Piano Trios” on which Tchaikovsky’s piano trio op. 50, juxtaposed with Victor Kissine’s “Zerkalo”, is played by Gidon Kremer with Giedre Dirvanauskaite and Khatia Buniatishvili; and Trio Mediaeval’s reconstruction of a 13th century votive Mass to the Virgin Mary “A Worcester Ladymass”, incorporating new compositions by Gavin Bryars. In all, a characteristically broad cross-section of music from ECM New Series.

ECM founder Eicher has been nominated nine times for a Grammy since 1997, winning the Best Classical Producer award in 2002.

Winners of the 54th Grammy Awards will be announced on February 12, 2012.
