Honorary Award of SoundTrack_Cologne 10 for Manfred Eicher

Manfred Eicher is to receive the Honorary Award of SoundTrack_Cologne, an annual conference on music and sound in film and other media, now in its tenth year.

“From the very outset Eicher saw himself as a recording producer who played an active role in the musical events in the studio,” SoundTrack_Cologne’s organizers note in a press statement. “More than 1.600 albums were produced in this way – among others, ones with contemporary composers such as Arvo Pärt, György Kurtág, Alfred Schnittke, Heinz Holliger, Steve Reich or John Adams. The multiple Grammy-Award-winner also took on the music production for films of Godard, Angelopoulos, Xavier Koller and Sandra Nettelbeck”.

Earlier winners of the award have included Michael Nyman, Christian Bruhn, Irmin Schmidt and Peter Thomas. On Saturday November 23 at 2:30 pm, Manfred Eicher will be present for a discussion with the Cologne audience at the Kölnischer Kunstverein. At 4:30 pm, following the discussion, there will be a screening of “Sounds and Silence”, the documentary by Peter Guyer and Norbert Wiedmer which follows Eicher on his journeys to recording sessions around the globe.
