Sir András Schiff will be honoured with Japan’s “Praemium Imperiale” prize this year. The prestigious decoration is awarded in the categories of painting, sculpture, architecture, music, and theater/film.
This year’s laureates “all share a love of ‘making’ – whereby concept and craft come together to create artistry of the highest order”, according to the announcement.
The close collaboration between ECM, Manfred Eicher and Sir András Schiff goes back over 25 years, creating a discography that includes some of the most significant recordings of works by Bach, Beethoven, Brahms, Schubert, Schumann and many more.
Schiff’s recording of Bach’s Goldberg Variations will be released as a 2-LP vinyl edition for the very first time in autumn.
