Gard Nilssen

Norwegian drummer Gard Nilssen made his ECM debut as part of Mathias Eick’s group on the trumpeter’s 2011 album Skala. He has prominently featured on the label since with Polish saxophonist Maciej Obara’s quartet, whose ECM debut Unloved was released in 1017. Two albums of Maciej’s quartet have followed: Three Crowns (2019) and Frozen Silence (2023). Gard released his own leader debut for the label, Elastic Wave, in 2022, featuring his Acoustic Unity trio that includes saxophonist André Roligheten and Petter Eldh on bass. The prolific drummer’s other projects are the trio Bushman´s Revenge, sPacemonKey, Amgala Temple, Ruby and Gard Nilssen’s Supersonic Orchestra, which includes his ECM collaborators Petter Eldh, Maciej Obara and Ole Morten Vågan, among many others.
