Mette Henriette

Sámi-Norwegian saxophonist and composer Mette Henriette made her ECM debut in 2015, offering an impressive double album of original music for trio and large ensemble. Upon its release, the Irish Times described it as “music of the highest quality, demonstrating quiet elegance throughout”, with The Guardian lending Mette the title “contemporary music-star on the rise”.

In 2023, the saxophonist released her second recording for the label Drifting, in trio with pianist Johan Lindvall and new addition Judith Hamann on cello. On the album, Mette distills her chamber musical elaborations into a concentrated trio-set of 15 vignettes, marked by subtle and intense interaction. The recording topped year’s ends lists by Jazzwise Magazine, All About Jazz and more as well as receiving high praise from The Guardian, who called it “beautifully recorded low-volume acoustic music located somewhere equidistant from jazz, folk and contemporary composition”.
