Carla Bley at 85

Happy Birthday, Carla!

Carla Bley, the great jazz composer and pianist is 85 years old today. We send her greetings and best wishes.
Birthday tributes are appearing in many publications and online spaces. And New Jersey Public Radio Station WBGO has a Podcast aptly entitled Carla Bley At 85: In Praise and Awe of An Unfettered Genius.  ECM has distributed Carla’s music for the last half-century, including her recordings on the JCOA and WATT labels, wide ranging work  from Escalator Over The Hill to Fancy Chamber Music. Latterly, Carla has been recording for ECM directly, as on the universally acclaimed trilogy with Andy Sheppard and Steve Swallow: Trios, Andando el Tiempo and Life Goes On.  Life Goes On recently, and deservedly, won the Jahrespreise der deutschen Schallplattenkritik, the album-of-the-year award of Germany’s jazz critics.
