Gnu High by Kenny Wheeler was released 50th years ago.
On the album Kenny is fronting an extraordinary quartet, with Keith Jarrett, Dave Holland and Jack DeJohnette, all masterful improvisers who had shaped their intuitive collective understanding as members of Miles Davis’s groups.
Today the record is available as part of ECM’s audiophile Luminessence series, presented in a tip-on gatefold sleeve and including new liner notes by Nick Smart.
