Recipient of a rare 5-Star review from the Penguin Guide to Jazz, Lumi is one of the key items in the discography of Finnish drummer-composer Edward Vesala. It was the first of his ECM recordings to feature his Sound and Fury ensemble, with creative co-arranger Iro Haarla on piano and harp. “Each piece is full of melodic ideas, brilliantly scored”, wrote The Wire. A range of moods is explored, from the impressionist tone poem “The Wind” to the playful Finnish tango “Fingo,” and guitarist Raoul Björkenheim solos powerfully.
